The Dance Floor

Where you place the dance floor plays a key role in the mood and success of weddings and corporate events. For a party to really take off, older guests shouldn't be seated right in front of the sound system, so that conversations stay comfortable. The size of the dance floor should match the number of guests – not so big that it feels empty, and not so small that there's no room to move.

The DJ belongs close to the dance floor, so that they can read the room directly and steer the mood as it happens. Ideally, the dance floor, bar and DJ booth form a "magic triangle", allowing guests to move easily between dancing and refreshments. Additional attractions such as photo booths should also be placed near the dance floor to keep everyone's attention on the party. A photo booth in a separate room or even outside can quickly lure guests away, and it usually takes a while before they come back.

A central location for the dance floor encourages every guest to join in, while seating nearby allows for short breaks without losing sight of the action. Lighting matters just as much: warm, inviting lighting makes the dance floor stand out. Make sure your venue can dim the lights later on, too. For the first dance it should still be bright enough, if that's what you want – but after that, keep it dark! Talk it through in advance with your DJ, venue and photographer. Finally, good room acoustics ensure clear, pleasant sound and round off the atmosphere. Make sure the sound system is positioned so that background music and speeches also come across well. Ask your DJ whether it makes sense to set up a second speaker for the background music and speeches.
